If it wasn't for ...

If it wasn't for the very good quality of service from staff, I would not rate the Edison this highly. Heather in housekeeping on the 15th floor, Julia and Rich at Bonds in the basement, and Sam the lady server at Friedman's were all exceptional. The room was clean, basic, and renovated. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about. If the rates were more aligned with regular market pricing, this would be very good value. Unfortunately, I fell prey to insane rip-off pricing during fashion week and the UN session. Worse yet, I specifically called to speak with someone and ensure that I could book a renovated room. That person told me that "all the rooms are the same." Upon arriving, I was lectured on how I should know better; that a "Signature" room is renovated and a "Classic" is not. I then had the privilege of paying an additional $300 for the room. Also the "complimentary" breakfast is your choice or grab-n-go or a very limited selection from Friedman's Restaurant. Both are "okay" but know that your selections are very limited and there's a token $5.00 payment you need to make for sit-down service at Friedman's. Lastly, a pleasant surprise was the fitness center. It's nothing lavish or particularly exciting, but it's far better equipped than the photos on the website and is on par or better than most hotel gyms.

I recently stayed here ...

I recently stayed here for a week on a work trip. This hotel is all about its location and historical significance. Other than that, it's just an "eh, ok" hotel. It is right off Times Square and the subway is a block away. As a woman traveling by myself I did feel safe as they require room keys to access the elevators. The food at Friedman's was decent. The herb fries were amazing! The "free" breakfast isn't really free. You pay a per day service fee for the hotel which includes "free breakfast". The breakfast food was sub-par. The rooms were clean but obviously very old and outdated. I mean, it opened in the 30s so things like plumbing are not great. It took a good 20 minutes for the shower to heat up to a reasonable temperature. The first 2 days I took cold showers because I didn't plan for it taking so long. There are no mini fridges in the room and I had no coffee maker in my room though I understand some rooms do have them. The best part of the room was that there was no street noise! It was quite which I appreciated. Overall the hotel is a decent one if you want to be IN Times Square or close to the Theater District.
